Dr. Melanie Mintzer

Dr. Mintzer made the decision to become a physician when she was 8 years old after accompanying her father, who was a small-town family physician on housecalls. She saw how he helped his patients feel better just by talking to them. He was my role model. He died when she was 18, and never got to her become a physician but his memory provides her with support on a daily basis.

Dr. Mintzer has practiced in NC for 41 years, and she has patients she has seen almost that long. Dr. Mintzer is blessed to see patients whom she delivered, and their children.

Dr. Mintzer graduated from Wellesley College where she majored in anthropology and chemistry. She attended McGill University Faculty of Medicine, in Montreal Quebec graduating in 1980. She completed a Family Practice Residency at UCSF, San Francisco General Hospital, in 1983. Dr. Mintzer relocated to Chapel Hill where she completed a Family Medicine Teaching Faculty fellowship at UNC School of Medicine in 1985 and joined the faculty in 1985. At UNC, she completed a NCI fellowship in Cancer Control, Epidemiology and Prevention, and additional training in public health, with a focus on cervical cancer and breast cancer prevention. Dr. Mintzer joined Family Medical Associates of Cary in 2004, and when the practice closed, she founded Generations Family Practice in 2005 and practiced there until 2022. Dr. Mintzer’s practice focus was primarily in internal medicine, and geriatrics.

into private practice where her focus has been primarily in internal medicine, and geriatrics.
